Qualifications and Skills
We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated academic in Interior Design to join the Faculty of Art & Design. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in contemporary interior design practice, interior architecture, and spatial design, with a strong understanding of current industry standards, emerging technologies, and sustainable design principles.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: interior architecture, hospitality and commercial design, residential design, healthcare and educational environments, sustainable and biophilic design, adaptive reuse and heritage conservation, lighting design, furniture and spatial design, digital visualisation, or human-centred interior environments. The ability to inspire students, contribute to curriculum innovation, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, researchers, and industry professionals is essential.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
A Ph.D. in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
Demonstrated expertise in interior design theory and practice, including contemporary design methodologies, space planning, user-centred design, and design communication.
Proficiency in industry-standard design software and digital technologies, including:
AutoCAD
SketchUp
Rhino
3ds Max
Visualisation and rendering software such as V-Ray, Corona
Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Strong professional or industry experience in interior design, interior architecture, or multidisciplinary design practice.
Knowledge of building systems, materials and finishes, lighting design, furniture design, construction detailing, ergonomics, building regulations, and universal design principles.
An excellent record of teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision in higher education.
A strong research profile, evidenced by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, with the potential to secure research funding and establish collaborative research initiatives.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, together with outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural academic environment.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and contribute to the continuous development of the Interior Design curriculum.
Deliver engaging studio-based teaching, workshops, and technical courses that foster creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and professional design practice.
Supervise undergraduate capstone projects, postgraduate research students, and design studio activities.
Conduct high-quality research and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals and leading international conferences.
Develop interdisciplinary research collaborations and actively pursue external research funding.
Contribute to academic advising, quality assurance, accreditation, curriculum enhancement, and other faculty and university service activities.
Establish and strengthen partnerships with industry, professional practice, governmental organizations, and community stakeholders to support collaborative projects, internships, consultancy, and knowledge exchange.
Advance the Faculty's mission by promoting excellence in sustainable, inclusive, and innovative interior environments, while integrating emerging technologies and evidence-based design into teaching, research, and professional engagement.
