A delegation from the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), led by Prof. Amr Eltawil, Dean of the School of Innovative Design Engineering (IDE), visited Ritsumeikan University in Japan from 1 to 7 July 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen the longstanding academic partnership between the two universities and explore new opportunities for research, education, and institutional collaboration.
During the visit, the E-JUST delegation met with Prof. Yoshio Nakatani, President of Ritsumeikan University and member of the E-JUST Board of Trustees. The delegation also held a series of meetings with representatives from academic and administrative units expected to contribute to future cooperation between the two institutions.
These included the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Design and Arts, the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space, which is currently under development, as well as Ritsumeikan University’s International Affairs and Research Affairs divisions.
The discussions focused particularly on advancing joint research activities with the Information Systems Science and Engineering Course at Ritsumeikan University’s Faculty of Information Science and Engineering.
Both sides discussed a number of practical initiatives to expand their cooperation, including opportunities for student exchange and acceptance through scholarship programmes supported by Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
The meetings also addressed reciprocal student mobility through short-term academic programmes, in addition to opportunities for developing international joint research projects and increasing co-authored scientific publications between researchers from E-JUST and Ritsumeikan University.
The visit builds upon a well-established partnership between the two universities. Since signing an academic cooperation agreement in 2011, Ritsumeikan University has supported E-JUST through several initiatives, including institutional capacity-building, the dispatch of academic and administrative staff, and the provision of specialised training programmes.
The partnership was further strengthened when Prof. Yoshio Nakatani joined the E-JUST Board of Trustees in July 2019. In May 2023, the two institutions signed a student exchange agreement, followed by a research collaboration agreement in September 2025, which facilitated the hosting of E-JUST researchers at Ritsumeikan University.
As part of the continued development of this strategic partnership, the two universities also concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on staff collaboration in July 2026.
Through its cooperation with Ritsumeikan University and other Japanese academic partners, E-JUST continues to promote international academic mobility, interdisciplinary research, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise between Egypt, Japan, and Africa.
The university remains committed to strengthening international networks that support the global circulation of talent and knowledge and contribute to building a sustainable ecosystem for academic and research collaboration.
